Although Alaskans refer to this fish as a cod, it is not a true cod; rather it is a Sablefish. These delicious fish are caught in deep water between 800 – 8,000 feet (usually trending toward the deeper end of the spectrum). They are delicate and flaky – oily, yet mild in flavor.
